A General Expansion Architecture for Large-Scale Multicast ATM Switches
نویسندگان
چکیده
|This paper proposes a multicast Universal Multistage Interconnection Network (multicast UniMIN) switch architecture for constructing large-scale multicast ATM switches with any type of small multicast switch. The proposed architecture consists of a bu ered distribution network that can perform cell routing and replication simultaneously, and a column of output switch modules (OSMs). The adoption of channel grouping and virtual rstinrst-out (FIFO) bu ers results in high delay/throughput performance, and the distributed lookup table scheme for multicast addressing greatly reduces the size of a single lookup table. Analytical and simulation results show that high delay/throughput performance is obtained for both unicast and multicast tra c, and the proposed architecture yields an even better performance for multicast tra c than for unicast tra c. In addition, the multicast UniMIN switch has such good features as modular expandability, simple hardware, and no internal speed-up operation.

Design and Simulation of a New Queuing Architecture for Large-Scale ATM Switches
The authors study the different buffering techniques used in the literature to solve the contention problem in asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) switching architectures. The objective of this study is to determine the buffer requirements needed to achieve a given quality of service (e.g., a given cell loss probability). On the basis of this study, the authors propose a combined central and outpu...

متن کاملActive multicast service architecture for user customized multimedia data transmission over ATM networks
This paper proposes a new ATM multicast scheme within the framework of an Active Multicast Service Architecture (AMSA) that supports user customization of multicast service. The customization is achieved by injecting and invoking user specific programs to shared network resources such as routers and switches. The multicast scheme also allows dynamic joining and (or) leaving of members of differ...
متن کاملA Leaves Initiated Resource Reservation Multicast Service for Group Delivery of Scaleable Multimedia Data over ATM Networks
This paper proposes a novel ATM multicast scheme which supports selective multimedia data transmission over ATM networks. The multicast scheme provides functions for receiver initialized resource reservation, end-to-end QOS guarantee and selective data transmission of hierarchical encoded multimedia data. These functions are achieved by using a centralized QOS negotiation and routing mechanism....
متن کاملClos-knockout: a Large-scale Modular Multicast Atm Switch
A large-scale modular multicast ATM switch based on a three-stage Clos network architecture is proposed and its performance is studied in this paper. The complexity of our proposed switch is N p N if the switch size is N N. The rst stage of the proposed multicast switch consists of n sorting modules, where n = p N. Each sorting module has n inputs and n outputs and is responsible for traac dist...
